AGHa
I am restoring some cars from the early 1980s. It’s going well, but I do have a question which I hope someone can help with. Specifically, it is about connecting the leads from the motor to the eyelets, which push into the guide and connect to the braids. In some cases the eyelet has come off the lead and I’m not sure how to re-attach it. I’ve tried hooking the bare wire around the end of the eyelet, which works up to a point but isn’t very secure. I’m tempted to solder it, but I don’t think this is how they were originally attached. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
woodcote
Hi AGHa - welcome to the forum! There are two ways - one is to crimp (squeeze) the eyelet so it holds the wire. If you flatten it too much, the eyelet might slip out of the guide, too little and the wire won't be secure. The second is to melt a small amount of solder inside the eyelet between the wire and eyelet. That should be pretty secure, but will make the eyelet less 'squeezable' to fit into the guide. I hope that helps.
AGHa
Hi woodcote - thanks for the welcome and the response.I have seen one example that was crimped (flattened) to the extent that it wouldn't fit into the guide. I'll try the soldering option.
