titanic Rigging

Hello,

I am having difficulty with the rigging for the masts on the Titanic. The instructions tell me I need a 60cm piece of rigging for each mast. There is a small sqiggle drawn at the half way point of the string picture - what is this?

when I try to fit the rigging, 60 cm is too long for each side of the mast, and 30cm is not enough?
