O gauge Live steam loco

Hi All,

In the January 1961 issue of Popular Mechanics a series started on the building of an O Gauge Live Steam 0-4-0 Locomotive. I have the April issue where the designer is answering questions about construction from readers. I will need to search

my archives to see if I can find the earlier issues.

There is also and article in the April issue comparing the merits of steam v diesel. The conclusion is that you could then build 4 steam locos for the price of one comparative diesel loco.

Up

to thee attic I must go.

the set
Main Axleboxes 18/- (90 pence) for the set
Bogie Wheels 4/- (20 pence) for the set

Cylinder Castings 65/- (£3.25)
Pony Bolster 3/- (15 pence)
Pony Kingpin Stay 3/- (15 pence)
Pump and rear frame

stays 8/- (40 pence)

I have not had a chance to search the attic for the rest of the series.

That equates to £4 18s 2d according to my "schoolday maths" [£4.91p] ..... I think my Dad was earning about £5 2s 7d per week then .....[in 1961] .... that's about £5.13p .....for the benefit of our younger readers.
Just a wry observation ..... ;-)
