Hi There.

I have recently purchased a second hand live steam set, only been run a few times. Upon opening and steaming around the layout for the first time I noticed that the safety valve stays open for a considerable time which causes it lose enough

steam to bring it to a momental stop until the steam builds up again and then it continues on for quite some time without letting anything out of the safety valve then repeats this again. Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening here?

Kind Regards

Shannan

Sounds like you have a sticking valve

You mighht try spraying WD40 down the 2 small holes in the top of the valve and then using one of the Hornby very small fixing screws that are used in the building of these engines say take one from the chassis

and screw it in the top of the valve stem which is in the centre of the safety valve and with a small pair of pliers lift the valve of the seat 1mm or so against the spring and down again do this up and down movment several times.

With the body off try

a run and see what happens or send it back to Hornby as only they should service this part safely.
