Hello Live Steamers How is the Live Steam club going? It's getting very hard to find something for a reasonable price. I was having high hopes in finding a papyrus. So if anyone has suggestions.... please keep me posted. kind regards, Michiel from the Netherlands

Hello again old friends and welcome new friends. Full steam ahead? We certainly hope so and the OO Live Steam Club is about to be formalised with committee and objectives not least of which will be expanding the OO Live Steam roadshow. Are there any volunteers to ACTIVELY get involved with running the Club? You can reply here or email us at mail at OOLiveSteam dot com Adrian

Asking for a reasonable price for a loco, followed by the OO Live Steam Club. Perhaps the two could objectives could come together? I watch with dismay the prices for Live Steam models on ebay, and specialised retailers. Take for example the 6 steamers on ebay at the moment (130528042799) for £1000. Frankly I don't want nice neat "mint and boxed", not out of the tray ever, model, but something that runs and has life. I am a member of the Mark 1 Cortina Owners Club, and the Moulton Bicycle Clubs, too. If spares, or cars or bikes or really anything relating to them comes available it first goes to the owners club members. Same with the 009 Society, before the Eggerbahn Collectors pay silly money for them! I personally would pay money to belong to a Live Steam Club, and in return expect that club to supply spare parts (at an economic cost for both the club and the member) such as tender wheels, etc., give me advice on running Live Steam (try them through reverse curve point work!) and, crucially, some sort of "recycling" of working locomotives that members wish to dispose of the others who run them, not take photos of. End of rant! Chris

Live steam products If you are looking for live steam locos and controllers, you need to check all available Hornby On-line dealers. I have managed to pick up a transformer and controller for under £110.00 and Silver Link A4 for under £184.00, both plus carriage. I know of ay least to Hornby dealers with stock of transformers and controllers. You need perserverance to succeed, Ebay is too expensive and the products are of variable quality.

I dont think that's a rant Chris; it all makes perfect sense. Prices though are just a function of supply and demand and now that supply has all but dried up LS will go the way Aster always has and that is escalating prices. Expect a rare A4 like Seagull to fetch £1000 in 2 year's time. Regarding your thoughts about the Club supplying parts and repair work, fortuneately Hornby has a wonderful Service Department with no parts (apparently) in short supply. The Club however feels owners should be able to do more serice work themselves and with the help of Hornby will soon be bringing out a "how to" DVD. I hope the Club will also become a mechanism for buying and selling and give buyers a bit more confidence in what they are buying.

With respect to doing our own service work, I have had some success with a live steam Mallard, but I had to cannibalize parts from another steamer, which had problems I have not solved yet. I think that as long as parts are available, then working on these

locos is doable. However, it would be good if we had a forum here that detailed the solutions to problems solved by others.

My Mallard, which I bought used, had been run on a rolling road for so long that the wheels were frozen in place, contacts burnt,

and it had flat bits on the wheels. This meant, once I had freed up the wheels, it went around the track like it had square wheels. I took some wheels from my spares loco, and after replacing the steam pipe between the loco and tender this Mallard goes like

the wind. I plan to rename it "Seagull" as I already have a Mallard.

I agree. I have just bought a controller at a reasonable price. I would luv to buy a locomotive at a reasonable price too. If you know of dealers that still have them in stock, please let me know. You can do it off line. My email to use is rgmichel2008

@ me.com I have put spaces around the @ sign to prevent automatic poaching of this email. We need a direct contact method on here.
