133 Squadron
An Airfix classic that needs to be put back into production. Also if possible could the Roy Cross box art make a return for this release?

Jools_1959
Horrible kit, hated building it.
peebeep
The tooling is probably no longer viable. Last time Airfix released a B-17 it was the Academy kit re-boxed.
malcolmincanberra
Er, quite apart from the tooling apparently being unusable, what would be the point? It would be a '60s vintage kit up against newer ones from Hasegawa, Academy and Revell. Who would buy it?
133 Squadron
Kitstarter is not meant to bring back an old kit that will be competitive with new tools. Rather Kitstarter is to bring back memories of childhood. A look around the forum and one can see the suggestions for kits that have a modern equivalent. Phantoms, Spitfires, Fortresses, and more. We are not pursuing accuracy but we are looking for models that we have loved in the past.
Ratch
Kitstarter is not meant to bring back an old kit that will be competitive with new tools. Really! I thought that was exactly what it was about. Not ressurrecting useless moulds that would do Airfix no favours.
Gadfly
Plus if you really want a Airfix B17 then just buy one second hand. There are a heap on Ebay...Presumeably the tool is worn out because they made a Lot of em...
barry_vitou
I think it would be good if it was restarted because even if it does have old tooling, they could still make a new version of it with better tooling.
Ratch
they could still make a new version of it with better tooling. Then it wouldn't be a kitstarter - it would be a New Tool!
barry_vitou
they could still make a new version of it with better tooling. Then it wouldn't be a kitstarter - it would be a New Tool! That's what I think we all want!!
Ratch
I think you have mis-interpreted the concept of Kitstarter.
Peregrine
My local model shop had allot of these older kits where airfix had all the parts on a spruce with a single centre bar. Must have been some kind of a cost cutting measure, but it really did produce a generation of kits that did not fit properly. I am busy with a Blenheim of the same moulding era and it's not too bad. Peregrine
"I think you have mis-interpreted the concept of Kitstarter."If it's for the sake of nostalgia, then why not have the older kits on a separate listing and then mould on demand; or purchase a 3D printer system and do the same. Ie you can have what you want, but a premium for the individual kit is charged.
