This is a wrong idea

From were I'm coming this kitstarter idea is wrong.

Who wants to build an old mould kit whre novel kits (see e.q. Airfix 1/72 spitfires) are available.

One suggestion that might help is this: Why not add some of the old decals to recent kits. E.g. take  a 1/72 B-17, add the beautifull A Bit o'Lace decals to it and release this kit using state of the art moulds. We can rethink many modern mould kits with some extra decals that brings back our childhood.

Nobody, Airfix included, has suggested that Airfix will stop releasing new tool kits in favour of this KitStarter program. It seems to me that they can do both. There is even a wishlist in one of the other fora for making new tooling suggestions. That said, there are a lot of kits in the Airfix tool bank that are unique e.g. the 1/12th scale figures, some of the 1/600 ships, the classic and modern cars and the motorbike series, not to mention a number of the aircraft kits. The point being that the market for many of these unique subjects would be too small to justify a new mould yet big enough to make it worthwhile for Airfix to run a few hundred (I'm guessing) kits off the legacy mould. For example, the most popular kit in this forum so far seems to be the S.R.53. The chances of a new injection molded kit of this obscure but very interesting subject are essentially nil so this project is an ideal way to make the kit available again to to what is likely a fairly small audience.

 Agreed.

Actually Ive happy memories of those old kits, from just sticking transfers on,to reading descriptions of the parts, cutting out the instruments and later using plastic card.

Sadly the modern market is  on a screen not making things. We ll see what actually turns up.

Just like "Flakjumper" said... original Airfix assembly instructions were highly descriptive of what we were actually sticking together. It was an educational process, and I must say I've learned a lot from them. Today it is just a mixture of drawings with arrows and symbols that even the ancient Egyptians might have trouble deciphering, with some symbols that are included but not explained !!  Exasperating !!!

Of course Airfix can't re-tool their original castings. They are a defunct entity... scraping the last income they can unreasonably collect, from age-old and (in all honestly) highly inaccurate Kits.

Decals for almost ANY "Military" Kit are produced and available from an absolute plethora of 3rd Party suppliers.

Just a quiet little jog around the Web will give you an inexhaustible supply of contacts, especially for War Time Aircraft and Tanks.

I doubt that any Model, these days, is ever constructed using just the Decals provided with the Kit itself.

I make my own Decals these days, but still require a 3rd. Party who has the ability to print White (for use on dark backgrounds) but even THEY are not up to  the professional standard we expect on the specialist Papers that are available.
