Andrew Thomson1707819853
On the second 204 sqn option for the new Shackleton, surely the side serial number on the rear fuselage should read '204' and not '205' as depicted?? 205 was disbanded (as far as I can ascertain) in 1971 so was this an ex 205 sqn machine. Just a bit curious and faintly confused
Jonathan Mock
205 on the fuselage: http://www.airlinefan.com/airline-photos/1700465/White-Knuckle-Airlines/Avro/Shakleton/WR966/?sa=X&ved=0CCIQ9QEwBmoVChMI1dSvoMn5xgIVwjsUCh2T3wZO#
Jonathan Mock
"Avro's Maritime Heavyweight: The Shackleton" by Chris Ashworth (Aston Publications Ltd; First Edition edition (May 1990), ISBN-10: 0946627169, ISBN-13: 978-0946627165) lists the history of WR966 and notes that it transferred from 205 to 204 Sqn on 1/11/71. a photo of WR966 on page 202 also confirms this.
