Long answer is look at Brian Lamberts website where he describes the various ringfield types, their differences and how to convert them for DCC running. Scroll down this page until you get to The Ringfield Motor in blue font. The essential part is making sure neither of th emotor brushes are connected electrically to the wheels which can still happen even with all wires disconnected due to live chassis, etc. You may also want to read on his site about stall current checks to ensure you get a decoder capable of handling the necessary current.
