Robo123
Hi I have recently gotten back in to scalextric and am starting to build my collection. I recently purchased a job lot of pieces and within it is a piece of track straight which I am unable to identify. Can anyone help me with what it is/whatbthe hole is for? woodcote
It's a Blow Out track from the 80s - half of a set of two straight pieces to give a 'blow out' hazard on each lane. It is also missing all the mechanical parts. There was an earlier 1960s version with both lanes on the same track and was electrically-powered. The 1983 version was triggered by compressing air in a big button, which lifted a trap door in the track. The idea was your opponent (or a spectator) could cause a blowout and tip your car off the track. I'm sure I remember it featured in a Scalextric TV ad when I was a kid... Fast forward to 2018 and you can pretty much do the same thing on the ARC app - using the Arcade feature with ARC Air and ARC Pro.
