Mal-Spain
I am all new to this, so forgive me if the question is a bit dumb! I aquired this set second hand, boxed and barely used. There was no indication that it was DCC ready, but when attempting to fit a decoder I discovered the loco, United States lines, did already have a DCC socket. Fitted a small Hornby decoder and it all ran fine on our club track. However, some advice was to remove the capacitor, which you do if it's not DCC ready and are rewiring. I have not done that, so the question is, if it already has a DCC socket is it necessary and should I have removed the capacitor? Also do I need to worry about the lighting in the pullman coaches, is there any need to do anything to restrict the power to the lights?ThanksMalcolm

jane1707819582
hi malthe suppression capacitor can be removed ,as the decoder is also surpressed ,if it is giving you no problem then perhaps don't bother ,the fitted capacitor may interfere with the dcc signal ,
2e0dtoeric
Unless the coach lighting seems very bright, leave them alone! (If it ain't broke, don't fix it!)Can you tell if the coach lights are LED or incandescent bulbs?Depending on how the coach lights are wired up, if LED, you can put a 4K2 resistor in each one, between the power pick-ups and the lights, but it can be a fiddly job.-Although not directly related, have a look at -http://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/12v-5050-led-strip-lighting/?p=1/and many other threads in here about installing lighting.
