Howbi
This is one solution.......the lights are battery powered and only switch on when movement is detected........ https://www.railroomelectronics.co.uk/Train-Tech/Coach-Lighting/Coach-Lighting-Oo-Gauge/Product-84961.aspx .......the other type is where the lighting is turned on by moving a magnet over the coach roof...... http://www.layouts4u.net/coachlighting.html .........HB
Chrissaf
And another solution. Replace the plastic wheels with metal axle ones (worth doing anyway even if you weren't trying to fit lighting as the plastic attracts and spreads grime and dirt on the rails). Then fit the metal wheels with pickups. You can either make your own pickups or use the wiper pickup variety made by DCC Concepts. Alternatively combine the two and use DCC Concept replacement brass wheel / axles with pickup springs. These will need painting however to hide the shiny brass finish..PS - DCC Concept 2mm springs are the correct ones for OO gauge rolling stock axles..The DCC Concept brass wheel / spring combo requires two axles and springs on the bogie. The wheels are insulated from the axle on one side only. Thus you fit the two axles opposite to each other such that one spring picks up power from the left side, and the other spring picks up power from the right side..The big advantage I found using the more expensive wheel / spring combo over the wiper version (I have tried and used both). Is that the wiper version although cheaper overall (when wheels are already metal ones) introduce greater drag and can inhibit the wheels from turning in a light carriage / wagon. The springs on the other hand exert minimal drag..Since your wheels are plastic, you would have to replace the wheels anyway, thus the combined wheel / spring combo offered by DCC Concepts can work out more cost effective in that scenario.
