Hornby Sound card to a 21 pin

collectors

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have a DCC Bachmann #29202 Whitcomb 50-Ton Center-Cab Diesel on a on30 scale that is sound ready & has a 21 pin connector for this. Can a Hornby 8pin sound cards be made to fit fit?? Or any suggestions to adapt, as the Hornby seems a lot more economical as i have a few locos to  adapt. I am also using the Horby DCC Elite control.

Thanks

Can a Hornby 8 pin sound TTS decoder be made to fit a 21 pin loco PCB board??

.

Yes.

.

See this previous post for details:

.

Note however, that these adapters will not extend the Hornby TTS Speaker output onto the 21 Pin adapter board because the standard 8 pin plug does not have any speaker connections on it. The speaker will need to remain directly wired to the Hornby TTS decoder. If you read all the posts in the linked thread above, you will see that space availability in the loco to accommodate this adapter may be an issue, in which case consider the alternative adapter arrangement described below.

.

The link to the ESU 51967 Adapter board has been removed in this edit. After a closer review, the 21 pin connector on the board was male and not female. Thus not suitable for the required application. The board originally linked to (now removed from this reply), is meant to be used to provide a 21 pin connector in a non DCC ready loco to allow a 21 pin decoder to be fitted.

This adapter is available from other retailers as well. The link above is just a product example. The link is for an adapter specifically designed to adapt the standard 8 Pin decoder wiring and has colour coded solder pads to make wire connection foolproof. However, because it is designed specifically for the 8 pin decoder, it does not extend the 21 pin speaker connections. The speaker will still need to be directly wired to the TTS decoder.

Reference...

...left hand one is used to hard wire a 21-pin decoder into a loco and right hand one is used to install an 8-pin decoder to a 21-pin loco socket.

it''s advisable not to cut the plug off, I had trouble getting a faulty one swapped under warranty after hard wiring it. They did swap it eventually. This adaptor is particularly thin and well suited to the TTS decoder. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/21-Pin-DCC-Adaptor-To-Fit-TTS-Sound-Decoder-To-21-Pin-Models-Class-47-37-20-66/253668631278?hash=item3b0fd422ee:g:BGYAAOSwNhpa1vkb
