Does anyone protect their decoders?

I have blown decoders at times, but usually by overloading the function outputs or shorting the sound amp. The motor output being self protecting.

I have some quick-blow fuses that I bought for a dimmable standard lamp that I may try.

(Sorry! I have edited the original post).

Not directly relevant but, having blown a number of decoders in my early days of DCC, I now always, always turn off the power to the track when placing locos or re-railing them after derailments. (Hope I'm not stating the obvious here?).

To facilitate this, to save my having to scramble around behind the board to turn off power, I use a spare remote controlled power socket into which my Elink power supply is plugged.
