dapatter
hi i installed a new decoder per the following instructions - https://www.hornby.com/hornby-dcc/decoder-installation-guides/standard-0-4-0-decoder-installation-guide/and it worked for a bit. then the train wouldn't start. I then reprogrammed the decoder again ( have the elite) and it works, but once the train is running, I cant slow it down and stop it. The emergency stop works, then i can reverse it and start. Any ideas? My other decoder which I installed works fine per the instructions. should i take the capacitor off? read something about that somewhere
dapatter
Also my dc trains wont work on the track when I set the loco to zero, per the elite controller handbook. They make a buzzing sound, but dont move?
poliss
Check your installation again. Removing the capacitors might help.It is not recommended to run DC locos on DCC. The motor can burn out very quickly. Hornby should remove this function from their DCC controllers.
stevecamden
I always reset the Elite and/or the decoder to factory settings when I have these types of problems. Once a decoder and the Elite seem to have an 'issue', the only resolution that I have found is to reset everything.I wouldn't run analog trains on DCC track - they won't last long!Steve
dapatter
tried all of that and still have the problem. do you think the decoder could have failed? understand i shouldnt run dc, but why isnt it working? i converted from dc to dcc so wondering if i am having wiring issues? I didnt modify anything. We have two oval tracks with an inner spur and an outer siding. there are a couple of points connecting the two ovals. my wiring is simply +/- to the ovals in about 5 places
poliss
After you've done the emergency stop and reverse, does it still run away?

poliss
Try turning DC off in CV29.
dapatter
how do i do that? why do you think turning dc off would help?
poliss
Runaways are sometimes caused by having DC on. Turning DC off may or may not cure your problem. It won't hurt to try it.To turn DC off you enter 2 into CV29. See your manual about how to program CVs.
FinnerZ
I found that sometimes my converted 040s wouldn't respond well to the speed controll on the elite, but would on the select. I think clean wheels, track and pickups will also help. Good luck.
dapatter
Thank you setting CV 29 to 2 (disabling ac) did the trick!FinnerZ said:I found that sometimes my converted 040s wouldn't respond well to the speed controll on the elite, but would on the select.
