charlie73
Good Evening, I have just sold my 3 rail system and now I am moving to digital, trying to keep up with the times! Can you use any rolling stock with DCC locos or has it to be stock with plastic wheels. Any help would be great.Charlie
poliss
Modern rolling stock has either plastic wheels or metal wheels with one axle insulated at the hub. The metal wheels are much better.
charlie73
Thanks poliss, that helps as I was a bit worried as I am a bit older just like my 3 rail was!
poliss
Just to confirm. You cannot use 3 rail rolling stock as the wheels aren't insulated.
charlie73
That's alright, all the 3 rail stock went away and I have now started buying new rolling stock.
81F
Just to add if you use electrofrog points made by that company in DEvon you will need to ensure their gauge is spot on particularly if you have long wheel base four wheelers. If the gauge is fractionally too narrow the backs of the wheels can touch the point blades. With 2 rail DC systems this just causes a slight spark however with DCC the automatic cut out brings everything to a stop!Usually just a slight twist and a pull with some trial and error is often all thats needed to rectify this
