woodcote
Hi Alan65 - welcome to the forum! There are 3 main types of Scaletric track - the original 1957 rubber track, the 'classic' track of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, and the 'Sport' track of the past couple of decades. Sport track is fully compatible with all the Scalextric digital track pieces and the latest ARC One and ARC Air (analogue) and ARC Pro (analogue & digital) powerbases. The ARC - App Race Control - systems have added extra 'gameplay' (pitstops etc) to the traditional Scalextric set-up and are worth looking at. All Scalextric cars will run on Sport track with an analogue powerbase. It is possible to convert any Scalextric car for use with Scalextric digital by adding a suitable digital chip. Many recent cars are labelled 'DPR' - meaning digital plug ready. These are easy to convert using the C8515 digital plug (C8516 for 'DPR' F1 cars). Cars that are not DPR can be converted to run using the C7005 Retro-fit chip - which requires some basic soldering. Another compatibility issue might be if you have cars from the early 2000s that have blue guides - these need to be changed to black guides to use the ARC powerbases and some older digital bases and lap counters. The C1254 007 set dates back to about 2006-7, I think (when the Casino Royale film came out). It comes with the iconic Aston Martin DB5 (not DPR) and a DBS (which is DPR). The track is Sport track with an analogue powerbase. It's a nice size with a hairpin bend included. If you Google 'Scalextric C1254' you should find pictures of the layout. I hope that helps! woodcote
I don’t know what Scalextric sets usually sell for down under, but that is wildly expensive in UK prices for a basic analogue set - even if was brand new and has a nice car in the DB5. Have a look on the Scalextric web store to see what sets sell for in the UK - remembering those will be the full recommended retail prices. Andy P.
Having bought cars and other slot related things from all over the world I have hardly seen location being a point to raise the price. A 40 GBP car should cost more or less the same in converted currency all around the world give or take maybe 10%.If you can find the price in GBP for the set and converted to AUS $ and maybe add 10% that should be the most you should need.On Youtube I have seen a few Kiwi slot car suppliers (others are available) that might be worth a look if you are have no luck on the Mainland...
