steadeg
I have recently discovered my old Scalextric 50S in my loft. Can anybody please give me an idea of how much it might be worth. It is in the original box and a complete set consisting of track and one Austin Healey and one Mercedes car in good condition. There is also additional track consisting of long chicane set PT/76, one pair of change overs PT82, and a pack of standard curves PT51. Set also has the original controller.
woodcote
Hi steadeg - welcome to the forum! The ‘50S’ is listed as a 1965 set on Adrian Norman’s Slot Car Portal, but no details of contents are given. The Austin Healey and Mercedes were included in the 1966 & 1967 ’65’ sets and in the 1968 ‘Club 60’ set - according to the info I’ve found on the excellent Scalextric Collector Guide site: http://www.scalextricguide.com/year_menu.asp As for value, it depends absolutely on condition. An unusual set from the mid-60s unused and sealed would excite collectors. A fairly common used set, even in good condition, may or may not sell - it depends on finding someone who is actively collecting sets from that era. Possibly the best way is to contact a dealer such as Scale Models (http://www.scalemodels.co.uk/), Roger Barker (https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/category/Hobby-Store/Roger-Barker-Slots-1278762305626113/) or Phil Smith (https://philsmith.co.uk/index.html). Of course, a Scalextric set from your childhood can make a really nice nostalgic display - the cars on a few pieces of track in front of the box lid look great in a small display cabinet. Andy P.
Like model railroading the great thing about slot cars is the basic technology has not changed massively (if you disregard digital) so it would be worth trying to get it up and running!
