JayNew2019
Hi! I have a Class 56 from about 10 years ago that's seen very little use in the last few years. Recently I got it out again during a clear out, and I can't figure out why it's just whirring and not moving.I've taken a short video (https://streamable.com/7wnw3), the motor seems to be turning forwards and backwards quite quickly (with the noise), but there's no movement at the wheels. I really have no idea how to begin solving this. Thanks so much for your help!
Fishmanoz
Pretty clearly something amiss in the drivetrain between motor and wheels. Nothing to do with its being DCC v DC.

Okay, that makes sense. How should I go about fixing this/can you point me towards any resources that help? I'm quite out of my depth here. Thanks! 96RAF
Find out where the actual breakdown in transmission is and replace the broken bit. It may be a gear slipping on the motor shaft or a split gear on an intermediate shaft or elsewhere in the gear chain.
