Chrissaf
At a revision level of 1.1, the Select is borderline unusable with the latest round of sound decoders. The very latest 1.6 revision will completely transform the Select into something more akin to the Elite. The key most new features in 1.6 firmware is the ability to write (but not read) to all CVs plus the ability to operate the full range of Functions .....which is a critical requirement for sound decoders..The cost of the upgrade is a very reasonable £15 plus your postage costs to send the Select to Hornby. You need a 'returns number' first..... obtainable by contacting Hornby Customer Care services [see 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of this page]. It goes without saying, that the Select in its 1.1 firmware version must be fully operational without faults before you send it off..Loco to start, is with sound... rest still analogue. Do not use Digital controllers with Analogue locos. You risk burning out the motor..PS - I have removed your duplicate question you left on the end of an old resurrected and unrelated thread..TIP: As this is your very first post, just be aware that the 'Blue Button with the White Arrow' is not a 'Reply to this post' button.
