Priming

Recommended Posts

Hello.  I would like to prime my new starter Spitfire.

is it okay to use a grey primer and can I just prime everything whilst on the spru os should this be done when ready to paint, I think the latter although it is recommended that some parts are painted on the spru.  Avoid areas to be glued?

Any other tits re priming? Cheers

Assemble, mask up transparencies, prime. I use either Alclad or Mr Surfacer primers, but these need to be sprayed. An option is aerosol primers and the Halford's stuff works well. If you're bristle brush painting your modus operandi and choice of media might be quite different. The reason I use Alclad or Mr Surfacer is because they have a hot solvent base and etch into the surface of the plastic. This gives really good adhesion and provides a suitable substrate for additional coats of paint. Aerosols usually have a solvent propellant regardless of the actual media and this usually has the same effect.
