  1. Thank you guys, good point about there not being much diffenc. Didn't
  2. ive now received my first kit to get on with. The Spitfire mk.1a. Scale 1:72. Now I see a new box with RAF Personnelat 1:76. There may not be much difference but why any at all? Are they not supposed to be compatible?
  3. Hello. I would like to prime my new starter Spitfire. is it okay to use a grey primer and can I just prime everything whilst on the spru os should this be done when ready to paint, I think the latter although it is recommended that some parts are painted on the spru. Avoid areas to be glued? Any other tits re priming? Cheers
  4. Thanks you folks , clearly as suggested by T2B, I'll wait until I've got a little stock of various paints first.
  5. I'm about to order my fist kit and wonder if a newbie like me should start on acrylics rather than enamel. Is one more forgiving than the other? What should I consider before deciding? Cheers.
  6. Thank you.....I would think so too but a few other put doubt into my mind. Cheers.
  7. Sorry if I was not clear.......I do not have any pots, Airfix, Tamiya or any others. My question was what is the diameter of these various paint pots so I can buy something to house/store them in (like nail varnish racks) when I do start to buy them. So I can check out the shelf depth before I buy. hope this is a bit clearer....
  8. Does anyone know if the paint provided with the Airfix starter sets is the same as in the normal Humbrol pots? Cheers
  9. I'm still building up to restart this great hobby after a long time away, and looking to build up a few essentials to get me going. As far as small paint pot storage goes I've seen a few things like nail varnish holders, which some people use, so my question is what shelf depth in cm would be adequate to hold Humbrol and Tamiya and other small pots. I've read 3cm, that sounds a tad small for the pot diameter! Cheers
  10. I'm a newbie also and was looking at the Spitfire Mkla.
  11. Cheers, thank you for all the info.
  12. Thank you Dad Paul B. I'm building up for the Spitfire Mkla starter kit, good for my first? It's in my basket! Birthday coming up soon and I'll have a list of modelling tools, paints and general modelling needs to get me going to start off. Cheers
  13. Just wondering if there is any way of finding out if a kit is made from a new tooling ot something a lot older with issues some older kits have. i ask as often I read that a kits is re boxed or now back in stock......either of these could still be the original old kit? Whilst no kit is perfect, as a newbie, I'd want kits with better fitting parts so would avoi old kits.
  14. I'm kind of going to start off this new hobby with acrylic paints. As I use a desk as my work bench (covered with a large A1cutting mat) should I avoid spray cans? Or can they be used carefully without the paint going everywhere? If using a tin, does primer need watering down?
  15. Does that mean the paint in the little pots is an inferior paint to those in the tins? Cheers
  16. Thank you....Dad Paul B good idea. Especially if someone opens the window and a gust of wind blows through the room!
  17. Looks good, Seems most people do a variation on the same method. Cheers
  18. Thank you T2B, That's kind of what I hoped for. So not physically attached to the model. Photos would be nice indeed. Cheers
  19. Just wondering if anyone hangs their aircraft from the ceiling. I would like to do so in my loft. So the question is how can anyone suggest to attach fishing line or cotton or similar to the model? And how many lines would be best to use..........three to keep it stable?
