The old grey fox
I have what I hope is not a silly question. I would like to know what decoder is needed to operate a DCC ready Flying Scotsman locomotive. Is the sound decoder placed in the engine and if so does mean it will run on DCC? Howbi
It would help to know the model R number of your FS. Most recent FS models have the decoder socket and speaker mount in the tender. You would need the A1-A3 TTS decoder. The TTS decoder is a combined motor and sound decoder for a DCC controlled layout.........HB
Chrissaf
.....does mean it will run on DCC?.As a general rule of thumb, 'Sound' locos ONLY run with the sound playing on DCC..Some brands of sound decoders will give basic engine running sounds on DC, but not the Hornby TTS types..TIP: As this is your very first post, just be aware that the 'Blue Button with the White Arrow' is not a 'Reply to this post' button. Howbi
@old Grey Fox...........I have this set with the FS like yours........as you can see the DCC socket is in the loco and the decoder fits up inside the boiler space beneath the chimney. The only place for a 'sugar cube' speaker would be on top of the black rectangular weight.......there are various sizes available e.g. Mini sugar cube 15x11x9 mm & 15x8x12 Maxi 'tablet'..........HB/media/tinymce_upload/091f002f972dbff707dce57e1016b57d.png
