Wellwhynot
Does anyone know if a black 5 or any other locos can cope with first radius curves
atom3624
Not certain if the 'Railroad' ones can, but the Super Detail require 2nd radius and above. Al.
LCDR
The catalogue says second radius minimum curve. Only the small 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 tank engines are OK for first radius. That said there are people on here who have said they have run them on first radius.
Going Spare
Tender driven Black 5 locos should be able to traverse 1st radius curves with care.GS
Rana Temporia
It totally depends on which version you have. The older models were designed to work on first radius curves. My Black 5 is a ringfield tender driven version and has no problem with them whatsoever.
atom3624
40+ years ago I purchased the original tender driven Black 5 as it came out - agreed that it could negotiate 1st radius curves - I had a small double loop oval using just 1st radius inner, 2nd radius outer. I think I did keep it on the outside in preference but don't believe there was a practical reason - just to limit chassis strain / wear perhaps. Al. Wellwhynot
further to my post would a bo bo deisel manage first radius or are there any steam locos that would cope, i dont want to go do down the shunter route if i can avoid it
Chrissaf
What people above are saying, is that the older the loco is, the more likely it is going to be able to handle Radius 1 curves. So in general, it really does depend on the age of the loco you are considering.

walkingthedog
If you are using up to date locos avoid 1st rad.
Tony57
From memory all RXXX will handle Rad1Some smaller R XXXX wil handle Radius 1, all Larger R XXXX avoid Radius 1.
