poliss
The instruction sheet was written/prepared on 5/4/2011 according to the date on the .PDF in the link. What is the R number of your loco and when did you buy it?
Blackbird
The ESU sound decoder has been available for many years, and is always being updated. The latest versions of locos will have the latest versions installed, they are all compatible.

I was reading the list from the free pullout "Digital Command Control" with the March copy of Hornby Magazine which list the Hornby sound locos. This lists only one A4 produced in 2009 I have since found out that this list is not complete and at least one other A4 sound has been produced in 2011 with the V4.0 decoder
ace10086
sparrow hawk uses a V4.0 decoder, I guess Sir Ronald Matthews does too. I believe all the previous model used earlier versions of the decoder.
kingfisher11
The Herring Gull which was the first has a V3.5 decoder.
Blackbird
It is not the version of decoder that is employed, but the sound files that are installed on the decoder. Any sound file can be installed to both these decoders, and if required upgraded or improved I would assume it is the same basic file for all A4s as supplied. Hornby Customer Care
Hi All,To find out which version of the decoder you have please read the Operating Manual which came with the product. Please refer to the Introduction section where it states which decoder is installed inside your loco.
Compbck
Hi Guys,I have just checked the documentation that accompanied my recent purchase of Hornby's Clun Castle and it clearly states that a LocSound Version 4 Sound Decoder is installed. I purchased it at the Alexander Palace Show earlier this year and am well impressed with, especially as I only paid £180 for it brand new. I now want to sound code all of my fleet - just need to do some more homework on the subject
