Loco Speed Control Setup

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have an A4 TTS Gadwell which when i set it up in railmaster (using my elite) all works fine but the speed controller in the software only gives a range of 0-1 (see pic). When on track though the loco works fine if controlled via my elite untit but when controlled by the software on my laptop its either stopped or full speed with nothing in between.

These sort of speed display issues have come up before. The usual fix has been the remove the loco completely from the RailMaster loco throttle roster and re-load the loco into RM from scratch.

.

To ensure that you are loading the loco into the RM throttle roster correctly, then review these previous 'How To' threads. Not every thread below will be specifically relevant to your loco, but taking them all together will give a good overview of most loco type scenarios.

This is a bug. This happens e.g. every time you add a loco, which appears at the bottom, then move it up the list (I put my locos in order of address, which is derived from the loco number). Sometimes it will also lose the loco image, as well as the group (steam, diesel) and type (branch, express, goods)

If you add the loco again, doesn't help, as the same thing happens when you reorder the list.

The only real solution is to add the loco, then if the maximum speed or any other data is lost, re-enter it manually. Unfortunately when you correct the maximum speed you also have to enter a speed correction, and here comes the next bug... this field is always blank when you enter the speed, even if you previously entered a value!

The whole speed calibration part of RailMaster really annoys me, becasue even when you calibrate either cruise or maximum speeds (I have a speedometer wagon) the slider is extremely non linear, and the accuracy varies vastly form one loco to another.

In addition, the loco icons don't always refresh first time, sometimes you have to go into loco set up again then out of it before the list refreshes. And this also applies to any adjsutments made to the speed correction factor.

These bugs have existed for as long as I can remember, and it is rather dissapointing that Hornby have not fixed them yet.

There is another dodge you could try. Move one of your other less used locos down the list and see if the bug appears. It may be a uni-directional re-order thing. If this works please let us know.

I have often lost a loco image but I have never seen this odd speed step bug, even though I have re-ordered locos at times.

One thing I always do having made any changes in RM, I close it down and restart it to get all its ducks in a row again. This logic has cured all manner of odd problems which just went away.

.

Nothing to do with Hornby any-more. RailMaster is now completely outsourced to a third party company (HRMS) for everything, including the money side of things i.e the within RM sales i.e Activation and PRO key code purchases.

.

Follow the money trail (who gets it)....that is where operational responsibility lies.

.

As far as I am concerned, and in fact legally, if its branded Hornby and sold by Hornby, then it has everything to do with them.

Regardless of who is or who is not legally responsible the fact of the matter is the only people who can and/or will fix the bug is HRMS. All Hornby (the parent) can do is poke them with a stick.

Have you written to Hornby Hobbies to express your problem or as many do is your complaint just posted here, because if so then there is little chance of HH ever seeing it as they do not routinely monitor the forum content.
