Programming and main track

Which controller are you using? Which loco and which decoder is fitted if known.

Programming track output normally does not have enough oomph to run a loco. It may twitch or flash the lights as an acknowledgement but won’t respond to normal running commands.

The only exceptions are controllers such as the Select which only have a Track output and although they program in service mode it is essentially on the main.

If your controller supports it can you program that loco on the main (POM).

As Rob (RAF96) says, you have to tell us which controller you are using.

.

If it is the Select, there is no technical difference between a 'programming' track piece and the main layout track. They both physically connect to the same terminals on the Select. The only difference is that the Select 'programming' track piece is usually short and physically isolated from all other DCC kit that have decoders in it.

Hi, I am using a Z21 with a Hornby Class 20 diesel. All other engines (Hornby) are working fine, so it is not a problem with the main track. I have also tried them on the programming track and there is no problem.

You might want to have a look on RM Web DCC  forum where Z21 gets a lot of discussion recently.

Is the Class 20 fitted with a TTS decoder or a standard decoder. If TTS try turning it round on the programming track annd see if that works. It may be if a TTS decoder it needs its firmware updating.
