Hornby Select Sound

Recommended Posts

The firmware supplied in the Select when you purchase one will depend where you have purchased it from and how long it has been sitting on their shelves. If you buy direct from Hornby [brand New], it will almost certainly be the version 2.0 Select.

.

When the Select is powered up look at the very first number to briefly appear on screen. It will be a number between 10 and 20. This indicates the firmware version from 1.0 to 2.0.

.

Full Hornby TTS Sound Decoder support requires version 15 [1.5] firmware as a minimum.

.

Version 16 [1.6] & 20 [2.0] firmware adds full support for writing to all the Decoder CVs.

.

The firmware upgrade is performed as a 'Return to Hornby' upgrade. The cost of which will be £15 + VAT (£18) plus your sending postage costs. You have to contact Hornby Customer Services (details in the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page) and obtain a 'Returns Number'. At this present time, 'Return to Hornby' upgrades will be returned to the 'user' with version 16 [1.6]. Version 20 [2.0] is only currently shipped in the latest brand new Select hardware.

Look at the screen as it powers up.

You will a two digit number followed by 30 then 03.

What is this first number.

If it is 16 or 20 then you have the latest firmware.

If it is not 16 or 20 (i.e. 10 to 15) then it is an earlier revision state and you can contact HCC to get a returns number to send it back to Hornby for the update at a cost of £18 plus your postage one way.

Edit - Chris posted as I was typing with one finger.
