Anton Stedman
Hello,Is the wire used for connecting the controller to the track special? I ask because I have a relatively large layout and wanted to extend the length that the controller could move around. If it is not special could I just cut a longer length of wire?Thank you,
Chrissaf
Nothing special. It just needs to be thick enough to carry the expected current, plus a bit more as a safety margin.
Anton Stedman
Ok, that great. Would this wire be suitable... https://www.hattons.co.uk/43434/expo_drills_tools_22021_100m_drum_18_strand_cable_black_outside_diameter_1_0mm/stockdetail.aspx Sorry, dont know why this posted twice. Could an admin remove one of them...
Flashbang
Unfortunately the details provide in that link do not offer any actual wire size or its current carrying capacity! For a 4.0 Amp system I would look as a minimum using 24/0.2mm equipment wire (Sometimes called Hook up wire) and better would be 32/0.2mm Examples are shown here but there are of course other suppliers too https://www.brimal.co.uk/cable-wire.html
Chrissaf
I agree with F.B..18 strands is IMO too thin. 24 strands minimum or 32 strands preferred.
96RAF
Nip down Screwfix or Homebase and get a bit of much cheaper flexy twin core mains cable, or nick a bit off a table lamp at home.
Anton Stedman
Thank you, that is very helpful. I mentioned that particular wire because I have already got it but should easily be able to buy the ones you suggested. Thanks 😀
