Railmaster Not Connecting to the Internet

After all my recent trials and tribulations with my Elite dying and comm port issues, everything is working well with the Elite controlling the trains and the eLink controlling the points via an accessry bus and a 4 amp power supply.

However, I have noticed that sometimes when firing up Railmaster, the internet connection icon does not light up - other times it does. It is never lit when RM says "checking for updates". I make a point of checking that the computer (running Windows 10) is connected to the net before starting RM. It is no real problem but Is this normal?
