Railmaster/ELink Speed indication

Recommended Posts

Hello,  using Railmaster Pro latest version, Microsoft Surface, Windows 10 Pro and Elink.

When I run my Heljan Class 25 (D5320) - I have excellent control and on the screen (larger control window) the horizontal bar indicated the current speed and at the top of the control fader I get an indication of final speed at that setting.

If I now control my Bachmann Class 25 nothing happens until the control fader is half way up it's scale - then the speed indicated on the horizontal scale is 1 mph and the same on the top of the control fader - 1mph.As I increase the throttle the 2 indicators remain at 1 mph - even though the unit is clearly accelerating. I have been playing with the Bachmann CVS and am struggling to get a linear control of the speed over the range of the throttle fader.

So 2 questions on the Bachmann -

1) is there a way to get accurate speed indications on both horizontal and at the the top of the throttle control?

2) Any advice re CV settings to give better (more linear) control of soeed over the travel of the throttle fader?

Below I show the CV settings:

Ever since the release of RailMaster version 1.72 this issue is raised every week or so. It seems to be a BUG in this particular release.

.

So first thing first, if you haven't done so already. Update RM to the latest version 1.73

.

On the morning of Friday 3rd July - RM version 1.73 was released.

.

If your version of RM is still at version 1.72. Then I suggest that you manually upgrade RailMaster to this latest 1.73 version release as the 1.73 contains 'BUG' fixes .... what ones is not documented, but it may still fix your issue.

.

The 1.73 update is not an auto-update. It has to be done manually. Download the installer file from the link at the top of the RailMaster forum. Ignore the fact that the link still says it is version 1.72 that text has not been updated yet. The installer that downloads is indeed version 1.73

.

Do not uninstall your existing version, just make sure that it isn't running.

.

Right click the downloaded installer and choose 'Run as administrator' and just install it directly over the top of the existing version.

.

THEN AFTER INSTALLING 1.73 do the following:

.

The only known fix so far for the 1 MPH issue has been to completely delete the affected loco from the RailMaster loco roster then add it again from scratch**. This may need to be done more than once for the speed issue to be corrected.

.

Note** As the Bachmann is not a Hornby loco, then I advise that you do not try to add your loco using the Hornby database. I advise that you add the loco manually. This previous tutorial of mine gives guidance on adding a loco manually. Ignore the references to 'sound' in the tutorial if you do not have the Loksound decoder fitted that is mentioned in your CV list.

.

Manually adding a Loco to the RM Database.

.

If the combination of upgrading RM to 1.73 AND deleting and re-adding the loco again cures your issue, then please feedback that information in this thread for the benefit of others.

.

This is the last most recent thread discussing the same 1 MPH issue as yours. It has a positive 'issue fixed' outcome --- reported as fixed only 2 days ago.

Actually - not so simple since MSoft are not happy:

Have reported it as 'probably safe' option with MSoft and it seems to run happily!

I get this as well (or something similar) as I know others do too. Particularly with the very latest Windows 10 2004 Feature Update where MSoft security has been enhanced. It arises because RailMaster was originally written for XP using the now obsolete Visual basic 6 from MSoft.

.

It is a 'false positive' and in this case completely safe to override and continue with the installation.

Well sadly - have followed the advice above - updated and deleted - to be sure I actually installed 24 245 three times and 25 245 (another class 25 from Bachmann) twice. They both still only show 1 mph in both horizontal and vertical indoicators.

To be clear they do run.

As an aside I tried to add the picture via the auto scale option each time - but ended up with nothing - I guess using a Hornby Class 25 picture and name probably won't matter as all the motor and funntion CVs can still be idividually set.

Anyway - any other suggestions re the speed indicator will be appreciated.

Thanks Phil

Does not look like there is a solution to the speed indication (Deleted Class 25 and re installed for 5th time with no improvement).

As I explained above - there seems to be no real speed control with the throttle fader - paticularly noticeable in shunt mode where the throttle has to be raised half way before anything happens.

Strangley it immeadiately accelerates to maximumshunt speed - it's like a switch rather than a throttle. Moving the throttle fader to maximum from the onset of motion at the half way point has no effect on the speed at all.

The acceleration  from rest is too fast in shunt - even though it is smooth in 'non' shunt mode.

In non shunt mode - same deal - nothing till half way up throttle and the flat out with no control.

Be grateful for any advice......

I suggest reporting it in to HRMS pasting in a link to this forum page discussion for their reference rather than having to retell the whole story again with all those lists of numbers.

Use the inbuilt query reporting facility.
