Chrissaf
It will run on DC if 'DC Operation' in CV29 has not been disabled. As to blanking plate. The Sapphire is a 21 Pin decoder that ships with an 8 pin adaptor harness. Now you have just said the loco is Battle of Britain, but you haven't said what brand it is and whether it was originally a 'DCC Ready' loco or not. If it is a Hornby 'DCC Ready' then the liklihood is that the socket will be an 8 pin socket. If it is a Bachmann then it is likely to be a 21 Pin male connector in the loco. Knowing the socket connector type will obviously dictate what 'Blanking Plate' for members to suggest. Probability, it is a Hornby loco with an 8 Pin socket, and being a Steam Loco it only needs a very basic 'Blanking Plate' i.e no directional lighting to support. In recent weeks, the 8 pin Blanking Plates have been in very short supply and shown 'out of stock' on all the normal sellers websites. But that was a few weeks ago and stock levels can change. EDIT: Here is an 8 pin one I found on eBay

96RAF
You can simply bridge the socket pins like this on a steam loco without lights /media/tinymce_upload/f285b4e05fc2bb3289f35de3970e377f.jpg This is a decoder test rig but the principle is the same on a loco.
