DCC decoder

According to the Hornby product page. The Liverpool R3588 is a currently orderable DCC Ready locomotive. And given that it is a 4-6-0 configuration with tender, then the DCC Ready socket is likely to be a NEM652 8 pin socket. So the Hornby R8249 would be more appropriate than the R7274 which is a 4 pin decoder.

Who is right is the question. Hatton's with their not 'DCC Ready' description or Hornby's own product page with their 'DCC Ready' specification.

A third source is required or an actual owner to confirm which is correct.

Edit: Retailers Gauagemaster and Kernow Models and Model Railways Direct list the R3588 as 8 Pin DCC Ready, but they might be taking that information from the Hornby published blurb.

R3588 is not listed on any service sheet, but early models were tender driven and hence would need ringfield motor mods to hardwire a decoder in.

Later models are shown as factory fitted with 8-pin decoders and sound . Two variants of tender are shown - long and short.

Hattons advice is limely to be wrong.
