Glue or pin
Anyone help me with this Motor has been fully cleaned and appears to be working perfectly but the power generated by it is less than half of that which should be coming out. The power contacts are working but it appears to be about half the normal power which is being generated Sally
96RAF
Probably a weak magnet.
Going Spare
Which particular loco is it? There have been at least three Ringfield versions with different characteristics. By which yardstick are you measuring 'power' - ability to pull a train or top speed?
ColinB
With mine I found it could be that the magnet is in the wrong place. I had taken the magnet out as I needed to drill a hole to take a pickup, when I put it back I got the positioning wrong. It worked but not very well. Alternatively, on the one in my HST, I found a winding had gone open circuit, again it worked but not very well.
The son of Triangman
It does indeed sound like an incorrectly fitted magnet or a weak magnet. The armature coils will be warmer than normal as the motor will draw more electrical current to compensate.
96RAF
I have seen a note on an old service sheet that the grey magnet goes in a specific position - may have been the left hand slot.
atom3624
I had one of the first ringfield 'Mammoth' Class 47's. I don't doubt the magnet positioning mentioned by our experienced modellers.I do remember how sensitive it was to brush wear and positioning - and if the spring was in place (guessing here, but all have springs don't they?) ColinB
When I had the magnet in the wrong position, there was a noticable difference between forward and reverse speeds.
