Have the elink, registered the software, fitted locos with hornby chips, three work fine, next two show on screen but speed slider is not graduated, locos run in either direction but only at full speed or stop.

Any ideas please, major hairloss.

....did wonder if free software had a loco limit until you upgrade to Pro.

RailMaster Standard edition is not free. The free Evaluation copy of RailMaster is limited to only 2 locos and you have more than 2 locos already, so you can't be using the free Evaluation copy. You must be using the paid for 'Standard Edition'.

There is no difference in the number of locos supported between RailMaster Standard edition and the PRO edition. There is a documented issue if you want to add more than about 60 locos, but there is a documented 'workaround' for that issue. HRMS the RailMaster software developers say that their test system has several hundred locos listed in it.

Your issue is as Rob describes. You have to completely delete the loco from your roster and add it again. Other posters have reported that this is something that they have had to do up to four times before the issue is corrected.

It can also depend upon the exact 'step by step' method you use to add a loco. You might not be using the optimum method, and it is your loco adding methodology that is creating your issue. Therefore by keep on using the same method, it just creates the same issue again.

This previous thread describes the issue in more detail:

No loco speed control in RailMaster after adding new loco.

I suggest that when setting up the locomotive in RailMaster that you do not try to read any of the decoder CVs as part of the locomotive adding process. Just write the new address you want and test. If that doesn't work, then double click the value box for CV7 in the CV read / write screen and manually choose your decoder from the drop down list before reading / writing any CVs.

I take it that you didn't test the loco on the default 003 address before trying to change the address to prove it was working. Writing a value of 8 to CV8 will reset the whole decoder and revert the DCC address back to 3.

If you need further 'How To' guidance, then these following threads cover the main aspects of adding and configuring locomotives in RailMaster.

For no loco found in the database, you need to follow the Tutorial for 'Manually Adding a Loco'. For 'non-sound' decoders, then just ignore the references to sound in the listed Tutorials.
