Potrail2378
Hi. I have fitted DCC Concepts electrical wipers to the wheels of a rake of four teak coaches, and now have interior lights. This has caused me some 'drag', or friction. My Railroad Mallard and Railroad Scotsman are OK pulling the four coaches, but my Hogwarts Express struggles. My questions are - is there any friction on the factory fitted carriages (I'm assuming there will be), and if so, have I 'opened up' the wipers too much, causing the friction? Thanks in advance. 96RAF
I presume you are using this type rather than the spring type. If so adjust the tension by bending the arms slightly until they make contact but do not act as a brake. The wound up spring type which slide over the axle are less draggy. To answer your other question the factory fit wipers are not so robust and create less drag. ColinB
The factory fitted lighted carriages seem to have a lot less drag. Like you I retrofitted lights to some old Hornby carriages and had the same issues.
Chrissaf
Potbus,I have used the DCC Concepts wipers. I found I had to spend some time adjusting, through 'trial and error', the wiper tensions to get a happy compromise where the contact pressure was enough to get reliable electrical continuity, but not so high as to prevent the wheels from turning.
