Geowff
HiIn the Hornby catalogue it gives a specification of each model,at the end of this it tells you the minimum radius track section number for that particular model.Following this is a dimension in mm.Could anybody tell me what this means please.Cheers
Chrissaf
Hornby define their track curves using a Radius number from Radius 1 to Radius 4. You can see the full Hornby track geometry on this weblink.Hornby Track PlannerIn answer to your question the bottom left corner of the image on the above link is reproduced below. It shows the actual radius in mm for each of the four standard radius'.Where the Minimum Radius is stated on the 'Catalogue' page [typically Radius 2] this means that the loco is designed to operate reliably on Radius 2 and above curves. This means that it is unlikely to operate reliably [it will probably derail] on Radius 1 curves as the Radius 1 curves are too tight.
morairamike
If the numbers are as below then it's the geometric radius of the track curves.Radius of curve,1 is 371mm2 is 438mm3 is 505mm4 is 571.5mm
96RAF
Noting that the radius quoted is to the centre line of the tracks.
