ellocoloco
Lots and lots, but it depends on your system, power supply and boosters.........
Chrissaf
The absolute theoretical technical maximum, which of course is not achievable in practice is 9,999 which equates to the maximum DCC addressing range that can be supported of 0001 to 9999.As 'ellocoloco' says above, the maximum in reality depends upon the design of your control & power distribution system and the physical size of the layout to contain your proposed amount of rolling stock. Plus, of course, the logistics of your ability to maintain what you are controlling in your head. Which is where computer control comes into play.Have a look at this video. This is a DCC controlled layout with 100's of trains under computer control. Computer control system shows at video timestamp 4:
96RAF
As many as your DCC controller supports. Some basic controllers can only load 9 locos. In my case the human controller limit is about 3.
Chrissaf
Just to add to Rob's reply. The Hornby Select can only address 59 locos in the Select firmware. The Hornby Elite and eLink can address the full 0001 - 9999 range. As Rob says, other controller brands and models will have their own loco DCC addressing limits.
