Rsjs
I have just bought the Eurostar R3215. I’ve programmed it using a separate track as normal but when I put in onto the main track there is a horrible buzzing sound and the loco doesn’t respond - any thoughts? 96RAF
That will be because it doesn’t have a decoder fitted yet. R3215 is described as DCC-Ready not DCC-Fitted. DCC-Ready means you have to fit an 8-pin decoder. What you hear is the motor protesting as it tries to run in both directions thousands of times per second. It will burn out if kept on a DCC track. Chrissaf
Just to add to Rob's spot on reply. If the box the Eurostar came in says 'DCC Ready' on it. Then the Eurostar is still an Analogue DC locomotive until such time as a Digital DCC decoder is fitted. 'DCC Ready' just means that the loco has a socket in it to accept a 'plug-in' decoder. It is therefore 'ready' to be upgraded to Digital DCC.If you leave the loco on the track with the motor buzzing as you describe you will burn out the motor.
