Class 73 73964 and 73965

i currently have a small 5ft by 3ft layout and I want to runs some different loco’s. looking on the hornby site 73965 works on 1st radius and 73964 shows as a minimum of 2nd radius. Looking at the images both loco’s look identical. Does any one know what the differences is between them to enable 73965 to run on 1st radius?

There is no difference between the models and the catalogue states both locos to be 2nd radius minimum. However, the loco originated with Dapol and would then have been capable of negotiating 1st radius curves. Although Hornby re-engineered the bogies when introducing it to their range, I doubt whether the upgrade took away that ability. If the decision is critical, ask the seller.

Unable to edit the above post. The class 73 came from Lima rather than Dapol.

I have both which I use to top and tail a rake of network rail coaches.

I can confirm all runs well on 1st radius curves.

i was running a 2nd hand Bachman 060 however I was getting an issue with the inside drive wheel becoming loose. Not sure if it was caused by 1st radius or just because it is old
