Sound Decoder for R3542 BR, Q6 Class

@Stephen.........the Q6 is a 2 cylinder loco so just look up other TTS decoders nominated to other 2 cylinder locos and you have a choice of the P2 or the 9F (both in stock at Hornby) or the Black 5 (not in stock at Hornby)..........HB. Edit......not P2 but J36 is 2 cylinder as G.S. points out.

The P2 was/will be a 3-cylinder locomotive so that TTS sound will give you too many exhaust beats per driving wheel revolution. The J36 was another, albeit smaller, 2-cylinder locomotive so that is another decoder to consider.

As has been said before, it all depends upon what level of authenticity you are seeking to achieve. None of Hornby's TTS decoder sounds have been created specifically for the Q6 so whichever you choose will be a compromise.

As there is a Q6 preserved, there will probably be another sound decoder manufacturer that offers a decoder with all the correct sounds for that locomotive.
