Do you know the address of the Deltic? If not just program it with a new address within the range 1-59.

What revision is your Select - see first double digit number on screen as you power up. This will be between 10 and 20. If it is 16 or 20 that will help. If it is 15 then you will be able to operate all your sounds. Do you have the sound list for your decoder or if not do you know which make sound decoder it is.

If it is less than 15 then you are advised to contact Hornby to have it updated for around £15 plus postage one way.

There really isn't enough information in your post to make a definitive simple judgement.

It would help immensely, if you could answer a few more questions.

  1. What is the firmware revision of your Select. The very first number to appear briefly on screen when you power the Select up. If the Select was a brand new purchase, then this number may be 16 or 20 (good). Or if the Select was also a secondhand purchase, them the firmware maybe 10 to 13 (bad).
  2. Do you have any indication what brand of sound decoder is fitted in the loco i.e. Hornby TTS or Loksound or something different.
  3. In order to give a suggestion as to what you are doing wrong, we really need you to explain what it is you are actually doing. You might be doing everything correctly, but it is not working due to a fault. If you could explain the actions you have taken so far in detail, then we would have a better idea as to what you might be doing wrong, if anything at all. For example, what address are you using for the loco, have you tried configuring a new address and if so how did you try to do the configuration. What method (button pressing order) are you using to operate your secondhand loco.

EDIT: Rob posted whilst I was typing, so there is some information overlap in our replies.

As this is your very first post on this forum, it would be appreciated if you replied using the reply text box at the bottom of the page, rather than the within post blue button.
