GrandTour
I’ve been using my Hornby Select controller for about a year + now and it is suddenly started displaying a flashing 88 in the LCD screen. Is this some sort of error code or is it something that might be a other function? Chrissaf
Can you please confirm what firmware version your Select is using. The very first number to appear briefly on screen as the Select is being powered up. The start up numbers take the form xx 30 03. It is xx that states the firmware. Expect to see a number between 10 and 20.
96RAF
It has gone into self test mode. To do this you hold the Function button as you power the Select up. I guess the Function button is stuck on. Try exercising it a few times. To get out of self test mode simply power down and up again when you should see the normal series of numbers xx 30 03 as explained by Chris. GrandTour
@Chrissaf The flashing 88 has disappeared now and I have the number 10 come up first in the sequence.
GrandTour
@96RAFOn closer inspection the front cover plate is loose and seems to be impeding the function button. I am going secure the plate down. Many thanks.
Chrissaf
10 ... That is the original version 1.0 firmwareYou are highly advised to have that firmware updated by Hornby to the latest 1.6 version.Version 1.6 totally transforms the Select. Not only does version 1.6 give full support for functions F0 to F28, it also gives support to write to all CVs in the CV1 to CV255 range. The firmware update is a return to Hornby update for which you will need to obtain a "returns number" from Hornby Customer Services. The turnaround is typically less than 10 working days and typically costs £15 plus your sending P&P.After update, the "user interface" [how you use it] is completely different. So you need to download the Select R8213 [version 1.5] manual and version 1.6 / 2.0 Select Addendum manual. Both documents can be downloaded from the "support" section of the Hornby website. 96RAF
I was going to refer you to my Teardown of the Select so you could better fix it but if its going back for update, leave it as is and let Hornby sort it out for you.
