johnny1707821342
Hiya guys I've recently bought a hornby class 50 and I want to dcc it so have got a decoder also. The fan on the class 50 is still connected however I've heard people say this brings the performance of the loco down as time goes on and was wondering if this was true would really like to keep the fan but would rather have a good running locomotivecheers Johnny
ellocoloco
Hi Johnny, I'm guessing this a band driven fan?I wouldn't worry about it. I have four of Hornby's Electrotren ALCo 316s with band driven fans. All running on DCC. I have had no issues with any of them regarding the performance. One point though. One of them had a squeaky fan so I tried to lubricate it. It now slips so I won't be doing that again. The later 321s have a motor driven fan which is switchable on DCC and they are even better but can also squeak!
