1:48 Bucc ... Old style

Recommended Posts

Just posting this to stop myself from procrastinating over this one. I've been building this since well before the new tooling came out, so by posting here I'm going to have to finish it, right?
I get a little done in between other builds but it's just hanging over me now. Anyways, it's the S2B build this one, XW530, that used to reside at the Buccaneer garage in Lossiemouth. Might take a while though folks 🙂

Some progress on the wing fold completed just need to do the other outer wing and I think I'm ready to paint the exposed parts, wheel wells and airbrake structure.

The riveting on the front and rear spars is completely out of place so I'll just fill those as they're unlikely to be noticeable anyway. The rear spar reinforcement will need to ne remade out of card and moved back to the correct position

This is what I'm hoping to achieve (or some resemblance to it)

I'll add the the wings at the end and add the necessary plumbing

I've added some updates to the airbrake mechanism. The very end was just a flat bar with no resemblance to the real thing. As this will be exposed with the airbrakes open I had a go at replicating what should be there. By no means accurate but should be some sort of representation.Airbrake1.thumb.jpeg.0bc168c22ab64b626d1e763292f5fce3.jpeg

What I was aiming for ...

Also need to do a bit to the Wheel Wells. I bought the Neomega Wheel Well set and cockpit just recently (ready for the next RN version) and it's made me want to improve what is really very basic. So that's the next task.

Quick update on the Bucc' Have now done some detailing on the wheel wells and will need to paint before adding electrical boxes, cabling etc.
Just wish I'd carved out that moulded pipe and replaced it. Never mind, two more iterations of this kit to go.

Incidentally, earlier I mentioned that on the next Bucc' I was going to use the Neomega Wheel Wells. Unfortunately the ones sent did not fit very well ( I think I may have been the first customer with the new resin prints). Anyway, I contacted them and Gordon has gone out of his way to correct these and the new ones turned up this morning an fit perfectly. So hats off to them.

Whilst I wait for the paint for the Kingfisher to turn up, I thought I'd better get on and do some more of this Bucc.
I've mixed up some Light Admiralty Grey and sprayed the wheel wells, wing folds and airbrake mech. Not sure if my LAG is a bit on the dark side. Terrible light here at the moment so will have another look in the morning.
The Jet pipes were masked off as I quite liked the bronzed effect seen in the earlier post. It's also highlighted certain areas that still need a bit of tidying up.

Looking forward to detailing the wheel wells a bit more

Ian

Ian, you might try a wash in there to bring out the detail.

Yes, I will. There's a bit more detailing to go in the bays yet though. Some electrical boxes, cabling & pipes.
