  4. I've just realised that Roy Cross .... who I'm sure will need no introduction here is 100 today! I wish him all the very best! He painted most of the Airfix box art during the 60's. Many are to be found in his books... The Vintage Years of Airfix Box Art and More vintage years of Airfix Box art. His illustrations are what attracted me to Airfix kits in my early years! One cannot underestimate the effect his paintings had on a generation of children. Ad multos annos
  5. Tour de Airfix is right about the spray cans ...... you have to be very, very careful when using them or you end up obliterating all the detail. I use short squirts whilst passing over the model. Keeping the can in a fixed position and then pressing the button results in a big mess.
  6. This one just flew into my study this morning. Been after one for years. I finally decided to go for the 1:144 kit. The 1:72 version with a 3 foot wing span was a bit to big to fit in any of my display cabinets ...... still it can sit to my other 1:144 airliners. Such a weird plane - 6 propellors and 4 jets!
  7. Can never have enough Mustangs!
  8. Wow .... Brilliant idea how to set up that display of the to choppers ...... I had missed that. They look great.
  9. I rarely build using the schemes included in the box. Makes life more interesting and I end up with a model slightly different to everyone else's......as you can see from recent my DC10 and TriStar.
  10. They are both virtually done. Tomorrow I will give them a protective coat of satin lacquer but they are otherwise complete. Not perfect, but they were great fun to build. They look so massive next to the Boeing 737. Goodness knows what an A380 would look like next to the 737! The Canadian Pacific Colour scheme is pretty gaudy but I must say, the British Airways Tristar colour scheme is great. Very eye-catching. Now that I've got my shipbuilding mojo back it's time to proceed to my next build .....a 1:600 scratchbuild SS Rotterdam.
  11. Before I switched to building ships I used to sometimes crash mould canopies using the old canopy as a master. It was always a bit of hit and miss effort with some being easier than others to produce. I remember trying quite a few times before I had one I was happy with. This is the old snapfix 109 kit with a canopy made this way.
  12. That's a great looking build!
  13. Unless they can come up with a procedure that makes financial sense I can't see anyone doing it.
  14. The first thing one has to do is determine whether polystyrene can actually be recycled. This is what the internet says! As polystyrene is a plastic formed from styrene (a liquid hydrocarbon), it's not recyclable.
  15. John, I believe you can edit posts up to one hour from when they are made. I would agree with Ratch. Try posting in smaller chunks.

  18. I always test it myself by taping the main parts together and putting temporary u/c legs from toothpicks into the u/c locating holes. Always allow a few grams extra to be sure.
  19. Thanks Paul. I need to finish it off and also finish off the DC10. Today I received notification that I have a parcel waiting for me at the post office ....I think the DC10 decals I ordered may have arrived.
  20. Anything larger than a fighter is usually left sitting on its wheels.
  21. Well.... wheels up and no crew .......you can always call it a gate guardian and build a pedestal and base for it 🙂 n
  22. Golly ..... was that the normal stance when catapaulting them?
