  1. They are both virtually done. Tomorrow I will give them a protective coat of satin lacquer but they are otherwise complete. Not perfect, but they were great fun to build. They look so massive next to the Boeing 737. Goodness knows what an A380 would look like next to the 737! The Canadian Pacific Colour scheme is pretty gaudy but I must say, the British Airways Tristar colour scheme is great. Very eye-catching. Now that I've got my shipbuilding mojo back it's time to proceed to my next build .....a 1:600 scratchbuild SS Rotterdam.
  2. Before I switched to building ships I used to sometimes crash mould canopies using the old canopy as a master. It was always a bit of hit and miss effort with some being easier than others to produce. I remember trying quite a few times before I had one I was happy with. This is the old snapfix 109 kit with a canopy made this way.
  3. That's a great looking build!
  4. Unless they can come up with a procedure that makes financial sense I can't see anyone doing it.
  5. The first thing one has to do is determine whether polystyrene can actually be recycled. This is what the internet says! As polystyrene is a plastic formed from styrene (a liquid hydrocarbon), it's not recyclable.
  6. John, I believe you can edit posts up to one hour from when they are made. I would agree with Ratch. Try posting in smaller chunks.

  8. Posted just in time for the anniversary I see!😄 ABBA fans celebrate 'Waterloo' Eurovision victory, 50 years on APRIL 6, 20246:16 PM ET
  9. I always test it myself by taping the main parts together and putting temporary u/c legs from toothpicks into the u/c locating holes. Always allow a few grams extra to be sure.
  10. Thanks Paul. I need to finish it off and also finish off the DC10. Today I received notification that I have a parcel waiting for me at the post office ....I think the DC10 decals I ordered may have arrived.
  11. Anything larger than a fighter is usually left sitting on its wheels.
  12. Well.... wheels up and no crew .......you can always call it a gate guardian and build a pedestal and base for it 🙂 n
  13. Golly ..... was that the normal stance when catapaulting them?
  14. It's in the ex-naval bakery at Vittoriosa on the South East of the harbour. Well worth a visit. One of the models you must have seen at the aviation museum must have been the diorama of the Kalafrana seaplane base. That had won Best of Show in a UK IPMS.
  15. Give it time. It will grow on you. If you find you have difficulty with finding anything let us know ....perhaps we can help out.
  16. I've had requests for commissions ...the last one a few days ago ...... but I've never accepted. As peebeep says, that would be work and I build models for fun.
  17. Just took 5 model ships to the annual IPMS (Malta) exhibition. Models were still being brought to the Maritime Museum where it is being held. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow and post them here. If anyone happens to be in Malta this weekend it is well worth a look. The standard there is very high. this pic is from the brochure
  18. Watch out for the tiny mud scrapers ....I lost one of mine to the Carpet Monster and he never gave it back!
  19. Try using stretched sprue to rebuild them. If they ae only struts and not loadbearing it should not be a problem. Challenge yourself!
  20. No, the instructions didn't specify the weight required. As always I taped the basic model together, fuselage, main wings and tail wings. They I blue tacked short bits of toothpick where the u/c legs would go and added weight till the model sat properly. You have to un-tape and re-tape the fuselage each time to add / reduce weight. I didn't tape the engines on at this stage as they would help shift the centre of gravity forward and thus would provide an additional safety margin. For masking the various colours I use Tamiya tape which is readily available here.
  21. Well...... we had a paper plane sculpture outside our international (for international read only)..... airport. So you could build the paper plane as a model of that! 🙂
  22. Undercarriage is in place and it sits nicely on all 3 sets of wheels. It seems I got the nose weight right. A few finishing touches tomorrow, a coat of lacquer to seal everything in and it will be done. It was a fun build. 6-weeks in all ......lightning fast for me!
  23. An amazing amount of dust still gets into my model showcases glass doors and all. Sometimes I wish that the April Fool's joke article in Scale Models Magazine some 20 years ago was true. They said you could buy little boxes full of dust mites that you would let loose in your showcase and they would eat up all the dust on your models leaving them looking pristine.😄
