  1. Thanks everyone for your reply. Time I invested in some white primer
  2. I have been using Humbrol acrylic white No.34 on an aircraft, and after about 4 coats, I can still see the primer underneath. So it will need more coats of paint. Why is it so translucent?
  3. Why are there so few model warships in Airfix's catalogue? Do they feel there is not a big enough market for this?
  4. Thanks everyone for your answers. I will stick to same brand varnish and paint. As Paul71 has said, I will try different things and see how they work, but I do know the paint had cured properly as it was at least a week before the varnish went on. A second coat has shown improvements. I guess this is fun aspect of modelling, trial and error, experimenting, see what works and what doesn't ;)
  5. I have just used this product and it has damaged the Vallejo acrylic paintwork on my model. The varnish has gone sticky and in places blotchy and is taking ages to cure. I had previously read on other forums that this varnish is not that good and had to try it out for myself on a test model. Does anyone know why it does this? Is there a way to prevent this product from doing this sort sort of damage? What other varnishes are out there that are good on acrylic paints?
  6. I am building an Airfix 1/72 Fairy Swordfish, and I use vallejo model color paints, but there seems to be a lot of contradiction between sites about the colour conversions. Can anyong point me to where I can find the most reliable/accurate conversion list for these two makes?
  7. Why is there so few ship models available these days? Years ago, Airfix did loads of them, now there are not very many, especially Modern and WW2 ships. I know they are starting to re-issue some under the "Classic" name (new tooling or not?) but will they include the likes of HMS Nelson, Warspite, Tiger etc?
  8. Has anyone has experinece of storing their model kits in their attic, and does the heat/humidity that can build up in the summer affect the kits in anyway? I have a cupboard load of models, and I need to make a bit of space (so I have been told!), so my only option is the attic. However, I am concerned it may affect the plastic. I have vacuum seal bags I plan to use (the ones where you suck the air out with a vacuum cleaner), so this may negate the issue of humidity, but the heat could be the problem. Various searches on the net have proved inconclusive, so I need anyone who has stored their stash in the lost to let me know if it is safe. I live in East Sussex, UK. Thanks
