Tomwilliams123
Hi all, I have acquired some Peco LNER Speed limit signs, and am currently struggling with knowing where to put them on the layout, I know there are sites online that do tell you, however I am struggling to then translate that onto my layout, I was just wondering if someone could point me in a good direction to help get me started, I attach an image of my track layout in SCARM for your reference. Thanks. Tom
Rog RJ
Why do you need a speed limit sign, what needs to be protected with a speed limit? If there is no reason for it, you don't need it.
What About The Bee
Hello Tom Speed restrictions are used to keep things safe and limit damage. For example, a tight curve may require a reduced velocity, to prevent derailmemt. There may be a temporary speed restriction for Maintenance of way. I would place lower speeds, therefore, on curves and higher speeds on the straights. The lowest speeds will be in your fiddle yard, where workers are expected to be about. Going Spare
If any of the signs incorporate a horizontal arrow to indicate the speed limit applies to a diverging track, these could be placed in advance of any of the points and crossovers on your main ovals.
LesXRN
As I was a driver I can give you a good idea of where to place them. After a terminus station. Approaching a terminus station. Before curves, allowing time to slow from the main line running speed. Before and sometimes after any diverging route. Before crossovers and after them if you rejoin the main running line in the right direction. At the entry to sheds, they would be 5 MPH. Sometimes prior to entering a tunnel. Hope that helps a bit.
