  1. No there are no lights on the loco, would you have a wiring diagram for this please?
  2. Hi all, just wondering please, if there's a way of converting an old non-dcc Hornby merchant navy to run on DCC just by using a 4 pin decoder? I'm aware that I can run the loco on DCC without a decoder, but would preffer to run with a DCC chip if possible please?
  3. I have decided to purchase a new motor bogie from new modelers, since I think the cutting out of the motor seems like it is caused by the DCC chip detecting an overload on the motor when running at full whack, I only know this because this issue has already burnt out a few of my 8 pin chips. The current motor in the loco is the original one that has been going since the previous owner had the set back in 2008, 15 years of constant high speed running is a long time for a motor like that, so I can see exactly why its now starting to fail, what with the brushes wearing down, and the internal arcing due to this. Tom
  4. Hi all, I recently aquired a class 390 pendolino that was previously owned by someone who quite possibly dosen't know how to oil their locos, as when I try to run it at speed, it keeps stoping, yes the rails are clean and yes the wheels are clean. It seems as though there is so much oil built up inside the motor that it is stopping conductivity, can anyone please suggest a way to fix this issue as I don't want to have to get a new motor or power car. Tom
  5. Hi, On the initial testing on christmas morning, all seemd fine, the deteriation has happend gradually right from the start. The loco is loco driven, and and when at high speed, is absolutely fine, but at slower speeds, it stutters and will stop completely.
  6. Hi all, I have just been running my Hornby King class locomotive which I got for christmas second hand from Hattons, and have noticed it runs very poorly. I've tried all the usual ideas such as cleaning the wheels/contacts with IPA, bending the contacts so that they have more pressure on the wheel, and checking for loose wires, of which there are none. I have also cleaned the track. Tom
  7. Hi all, The other day, I received a nice set of Dapol JHA waggons from a friend, and would like to fit Hunt couplings to them, however I cannot work out how to get them on, if you've got a set and have fitted these couplings, could you help please? Tom
  8. Hi All, I have an old Hornby smiths snacks waggon, that I believe has been owned by a smoker in a previous life, as it has a horrible brown film on it. Can I ask what the best option to get rid of this film would be without damaging the transfers please? See attached photo for just how disgusting it really is! Tom
  9. All, I recently recieved a rather tatty looking Bachmann class 57 which I'd like to restore, the previous owner has glued the windows in using superglue, which has left a horrid white build up all over the windows, is there any way to get rid of the build up, or will I need completely new windows? Tom
  10. Hi, Have been running my Hornby railroad class 40 tonight and have noticed that when running with the driving bogie facing the direction of travel, it will stutter, however with the driving bogie facing away from travel direction it runs fine. I have cleaned all contacts and oiled the gears and motor to no avail. Hope someone can help. Tom
  11. Hi all, The vacuum cleaner has arrived this morning, and works extremely well! It was a good idea! The make up brush is also working well! Tom
  12. Hi all, I have purchased one of the little Hoover's that Mike suggested just now and should have it by Friday, I have also bought a ladies make up brush (quite an embarrassing experience) to get the dust moved. I did look at one of those battery powered blowers but it cost more for the batteries than the actual blower. Tom
  13. Hi all, I have been doing some work on my layout today, and have been wondering how to clear the dust that has built up over time, I can't find anything online that will help, I have a Dapol track cleaner that does the tracks well. I've been looking at a blower for airbeds which could be a possible solution, but wasn't sure wether this would be a viable solution due to the strong air on the details. Just wondered how other people have solved this problem. Tom
  14. Having received the cams, they are too small, would anyone have the dimensions for them? Tom
  15. All, I have had an email back from Dave's spares, and they have said that they don't have any of the part In stock, the person on the Facebook page has 3D printed the parts and I should get them tomorrow, will let you know how they turn out. Tom
  16. Hi all, Sorry for the large gap between replies. I did get a response from Hornby, it is as follows: "Hi there, Thank you for your email, Sadly, as we do not have the spares, and are likely to not be getting any spares for some time, we will not be able to assist. As the model is 6 years old, we will also not be able to just send you a new one. At this moment, as the spares are not available, you will also not be able to send the loco to us. You can try again at a later date this year, on the off chance that the parts have become available again, but currently, we are unable to assist further." I am currently communicating with a person on a model railway Facebook group who may be able to 3D print one, but will update the thread as time goes on. Tom
  17. Hi again, I have just emailed them again, and am now awaiting a response, I have mentioned the number of the part required and hopefully should have a reply soon. Tom
  18. Hi again everyone, I've just had a reply from Hornby, and this is what they said: "Hi there, Thank you for your email,The part reference of what you require is x9098M, We now have a spares section on the Hornby web site.zIf the parts you have requested are not on the site we have a network of Service Dealers across the UK that can supply spares if they are available. These can be viewed online" Would the parts mentioned in the email (X9098M) work with the observation car as the one that was originally on the car is different than the one shown? TomAll spares are subject to availability.
  19. Ok, so I have just emailed Hornby, and am now awaiting a reply from them, I have attached a photo to the email to show them the part I am taking about. Tom
  20. Hi Chris, Do you think it's worth emailing Hornby to see if they have a spare one or if they can put one by for me? Tom
  21. Hi there, I am looking for a place where I can get a spare NEM pocket assembly for a Pullman observation car, I have tried looking in all the usual places (Hornby spares, peters spares etc) and have only found spares for non observation Pullman cars. If anyone can help, that would be ideal! 😆
  22. Just an update to the situation: I have just sent an E-mail to Ultrascale about the driving wheels on the bogie and am awaiting a reply. I will be going into my local model shop Tomorrow to see if they have any 12.2mm Hornby wheels that I can retrofit to the non-driving bogies of the train. Tom
  23. Hello there, I recently acquired a 1960s vintage triang belmond Pullman train, the motor runs very well but there is a problem when it is on the track which is that the wheels on the driving bogey have flanges which are too large and they catch on the sleepers, this is annoying because I would like to run this train but I can't because of this problem, is there a way I could either grind down the wheels so they don't cause this problem or change them out completely for a different set, I am not willing to replace the track because I've literally just completed it all ab it's all great! Tom
  24. I have tried both eBay and peters spares with no luck on either.
